That being said, let's get this show on the road.
Lie To Me was one of most anticipated dramas of the year for me personally. I was looking forward to the combination of Yoon Eun Hye and Kang Ji Hwan onscreen as they had expressed that they had wanted to do a drama together since 2009 but in the end, the drama ended up disappointing me. The chemistry between the two leads was definitely there but it could not make up the flaws within the characters, actors and writing. I found the secondary characters namely Oh Yoon Joo (played by Jo Yoon Hee) to be flat and predictable however I loved the character of Park Hoon (played by Kwon Se In). Park Hoon provided great comedic relief in what would have been an otherwise boring scene. I wanted more substance within the characters allowing them to have depth but for the majority of characters, what you saw on the surface was what you got. The plot barely moved in instances with the writers over-playing the "lie" between the two characters. There were times that I was shouting at the screen hoping that maybe Hyun Sang Hee (Sung Joon) would grow a pair and do something about his crush on Gong Ah Jung (Yoon Eun Hye). The plot left much to be desired with too much jumping around, in my opinion and much of the plot being way too predictable for my taste. If you want a drama which gives pretty good fanservice, then this drama may be up your alley but if you want something to 'WOW' you, then I suggest you stay clear.
My Princess, for me, actually started out great but just went downhill from there. Kim Tae Hee's acting had greatly improved from her stoic performance in IRIS making me think that she should just stick with romantic comedies from now on. I found the chemistry between Kim Tae Hee and Song Seung Hun to be quite pleasing and worked within the drama. I loved the character of Shin Mi So (played by Son Sung Yoon). She was just so darn funny and adorable being loyal to Lee Seol (played by Kim Tae Hee). On the other side, I found the character of Oh Yoon Joo (played by Park Ye Jin) to be quite annoying and tedious. Her constant refusal of Lee Seol got boring and fast especially when her reasoning was based on what seemed like stupid reasons. Oh and her double dipping of Park Hae Young and Nam Jung Woo (Song Seung Hun and Ryu Soo Young respectively). Lee Dan (played by Kang Ye Sol) also falls into this category. I know that sister rivalry is to be expected but dang it, she took it to a new level. Her constant jealousy and plotting against Lee Seol got repetitive and I just wished she would open her eyes and allow for someone else to be happy apart from herself. This drama was shaping up to be one of the good ones until the politics came into play. Oh politics, you ruin so many dramas for me. The second half of the drama started the downfall. I understand drama that you had to put them in to create tension and a problem for the characters to overcome but seriously, you dragged it on for far too long. The political side got boring and I desperately wished that they had made the final episode spreading over 2-3 episodes. The problems presented in the final episode would have much more interesting than the political side of things. If they had replaced some of the political stuff with the problems of Lee Seol choosing to stay a princess on her and Hae Young's relationship then you would have made it into the somewhat good drama list. If you want to check out this drama, I suggest you watch the drama up until the end of the first half, then watch the final episode and use your imagination to fill in the gaps. Trust me, it's much more interesting than watching the political side of things.
I didn't realise that this post was going to go on for this long so look out for a second installment. Hope you have enjoyed this post and feel free to comment below your thoughts. I'm always open to criticism to better improve.
